This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 122 in 2008. The species Gluconobacter roseus was originally described by Asai 1935. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 2008 the name was revived by Malimas et al..
