The species Clostridium laramie was originally described by Kalchayanand et al. 1993. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 46 in 1993. Trüper and De' Clari corrected this name from Clostridium laramie (sic) to Clostridium laramiense . In 2003, Spring et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form
Clostridium estertheticum laramiense (Kalchayanand et al. 1993) Spring et al. 2003
