Nomenclatural History
The species Gluconobacter japonicus was originally described and validly published by Malimas et al. 2009. Li et al. published an emended description of this species in 2017. Li et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Kommanee et al. 2011 emend. Hördt et al. 2020 in 2017. In 2020, Hördt et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Malimas et al. 2009) Hördt et al. 2020 .
