Nomenclatural History
The order Cenarchaeales was originally proposed by Preston et al. 1996. This name was validly published by Cavalier-Smith 2002. This name was placed onto the nomina taxorum rejicienda by Judicial Opinion 79 in 2005.

This name is illegitimate because the nomenclatural type "Cenarchaeum" DeLong and Preston 1996 was not validly published and no known isolates exist.
