The species Clostridium clariflavum was originally described and validly published by Shiratori et al. 2009. In 2013, Yutin and Galperin established Clostridium clariflavum as the basonym of
Ruminiclostridium clariflavum (Shiratori et al. 2009) Yutin and Galperin 2013
. In 2018, Zhang et al. established Clostridium clariflavum as the basonym of
Hungateiclostridium clariflavum (Shiratori et al. 2009) Zhang et al. 2018
. In 2019, Tindall established Clostridium clariflavum as the basonym of
Acetivibrio clariflavus (Shiratori et al. 2009) Tindall 2019
