The species Planctomyces staleyi was originally described by Starr et al. 1983. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 61 in 1986. Starr et al. established Planctomyces staleyi as an earlier homotypic synonym of
Pirella staleyi Schlesner and Hirsch 1984
in 1983.
