The species Paenibacillus sonchi was originally described and validly published by Hong et al. 2009. Sant'Anna et al. published an emended description of this species in 2017. Sant'Anna et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Beneduzi et al. 2010 in 2017.
