The species Sphingobium chinhatense was originally described and validly published by Dadhwal et al. 2009. Hördt et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. Feng et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Sphingobium indicum Pal et al. 2005 emend. Hördt et al. 2020
in 2019.
