The family Archangiaceae was originally proposed by Jahn 1924. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Lang et al. published an emended description of this family in 2015. Lang et al. transferred the members of
Cystobacteraceae McCurdy 1970 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Awal et al. 2017
into this family in 2015. Lang et al. transferred the members of
Anaeromyxobacteraceae Yamamoto et al. 2014
into this family in 2015.
