Proper Form
| Leucotrichaceae Buchanan 1957 (Approved Lists 1980) |
Nomenclatural History
|
The family Leucotrichaceae was originally proposed by Buchanan 1957. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980.
From 2005 to 2018 this taxon was considered to not be in use. Bergey's (2005) unified this family into Thiotrichaceae Garrity et al. 2005. However, that event was incorrect and never appeared in the IJSEM, as Beggiatoaceae has priority over both Achromatiaceae and Thiotrichaceae. Boden and Scott 2018 proposed Leucotrichaceae fam. nov. in the Gammaproteobacteria, which would result in a later homonym.
