The family Simonsiellaceae was originally proposed by Steed 1962. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Rossau et al. transferred the members of this family into
Neisseriaceae Prévot 1933 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Chen et al. 2021
in 1989.
