The species Vasilyevaea mishustinii was originally described and validly published by Yee et al. 2010. Yee et al. formed this name in 2010 by placing the species
Prosthecomicrobium mishustinii Vasil'eva et al. 2009
into the genus Devosia Nakagawa et al. 1996 emend. Zhang et al. 2012. In 2016, Park et al. established Vasilyevaea mishustinii as the basonym of
Devosia mishustinii (Vasil'eva et al. 2009) Park et al. 2016
