Nomenclatural History
The order Mariprofundales was originally proposed by Hördt et al. 2020. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 194 in 2020.

Hördt et al. 2020 cites Emerson et al. 2007 (Supplemental Material) but not Makita et al. 2017 (Supplemental Text 1), which both contain equivalent taxonomic proposals for this name. The proposal of Emerson et al. 2007 is based on a genus that eventually became Validly Published as Mariprofundus Emerson et al. 2010, and further proposed Mariprofundaceae.
