The species Bradyrhizobium denitrificans was originally described by Van Berkum et al. 2006. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 139 in 2011. Van Berkum et al. formed this name in 2006 by placing the species Hirsch and Müller 1986 into the genus Jordan 1982.
