The genus Pontirhabdus was originally proposed and validly published by Yi et al. 2011. Park et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2013. Park et al. transferred the members of this genus into Nedashkovskaya et al. 2004 emend. Shakeela et al. 2015 in 2013.
