The species Sphingomonas leidyi was originally described and validly published by Chen et al. 2012. Chen et al. formed this name in 2012 by placing the species corrig. Poindexter 1964 (Approved Lists 1980) into the genus Yabuuchi et al. 1990 emend. Feng et al. 2017.
