The species Komagataeibacter intermedius was originally described by Yamada et al. 2012. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 149 in 2013. Yamada et al. formed this name in 2012 by placing the species (Boesch et al. 1998) Yamada 2000 into the genus Yamada et al. 2013.
