The species Mycobacterium heraklionense was originally described and validly published by Tortoli et al. 2013. In 2018, Gupta et al. established Mycobacterium heraklionense as the basonym of
Mycolicibacter heraklionensis (Tortoli et al. 2013) Gupta et al. 2018
.
