Nomenclatural History
The genus Pelagimonas was originally proposed and validly published by Hahnke et al. 2013. Hördt et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2020. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Liang et al. in 2021.

Liang et al. 2021 asserted a change to the type species of this genus. The type species remains Pelagimonas varians.
