The species Sphingorhabdus flavimaris was originally described and validly published by Jogler et al. 2013. Jogler et al. formed this name in 2013 by placing the species Yoon and Oh 2005 into the genus Jogler et al. 2013 emend. Feng et al. 2020. In 2020, Feng et al. established as the basonym of (Yoon and Oh 2005) Feng et al. 2020 .
