Nomenclatural History
The species Lactococcus formosensis was originally described and validly published by Chen et al. 2014. Zhang et al. published an emended description of this species in 2021. Zhang et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Varsha and Nampoothiri 2016 in 2021. In 2021, Oren and Garrity reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Chen et al. 2014) Zhang et al. 2021 .
