The species Pseudothermotoga lettingae was originally described by Bhandari and Gupta 2014. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 158 in 2014. Bhandari and Gupta formed this name in 2014 by placing the species Balk et al. 2002 into the genus Bhandari and Gupta 2014 emend. Belahbib et al. 2018.
