The species Flavobacterium spartansii was originally described and validly published by Loch and Faisal 2014. García-López et al. published an emended description of this species in 2019. Kämpfer et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Zamora et al. 2014 emend. Kim et al. 2014 in 2020.
