The species Rhodovulum viride was originally described and validly published by Srinivas et al. 2014. Hördt et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. In 2021, Liang et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Srinivas et al. 2014) Liang et al. 2021 .
