The species Cyclobacterium xiamenense was originally described and validly published by Chen et al. 2014. Shahinpei et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. Shahinpei et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Shahinpei et al. 2014 in 2020.
