The species Empedobacter falsenii was originally described and validly published by Zhang et al. 2014. Zhang et al. formed this name in 2014 by placing the species Kämpfer et al. 2006 emend. Zhang et al. 2014 into the genus (ex Prévot 1961) Vandamme et al. 1994 emend. Li et al. 2021.
