The species Thalassobius aquaeponti was originally described by Park et al. 2014. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 166 in 2015. In 2018, Wirth and Whitman established as the basonym of (Park et al. 2015) Wirth and Whitman 2018 .
