The order Actinopolysporales was originally proposed by Goodfellow and Trujillo 2012. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 164 in 2015. Goodfellow and Trujillo elevated the suborder Zhi et al. 2009 to the rank of order to form this name in 2012.
