The species Cellulosimicrobium aquatile was originally described by Sultanpuram et al. 2015. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 168 in 2016. Nouioui et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Brown et al. 2006 in 2018.
