The species Agathobaculum desmolans was originally described and validly published by Ahn et al. 2016. Ahn et al. formed this name in 2016 by placing the species
Eubacterium desmolans Morris et al. 1986
into the genus Agathobaculum Ahn et al. 2016. Ahn et al. established Agathobaculum desmolans as a later homotypic synonym of
Butyricicoccus desmolans (Morris et al. 1986) Takada et al. 2016
in 2016.
Agathobaculum desmolans is a competing taxonomic opinion in conflict with Butyricicoccus desmolans.
