The family Salinibacteraceae was originally proposed by Munoz et al. 2016. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 172 in 2016. Hahnke et al. published an emended description of this family in 2016. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Park et al. in 2019 and García-López et al. in 2019.
