The family Odoribacteraceae was originally proposed by Munoz et al. 2016. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 172 in 2016. Hahnke et al. published an emended description of this family in 2016. A subsequent emendation was proposed by García-López et al. in 2019.
