The class Saprospiria was originally proposed by Hahnke et al. 2016. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 182 in 2018.

The journal in which the name was effective published does not have continuous page numbers for each volume. Syllabification must be corrected as follows: Sa.pro.spi’ri.a.; the etymology must state N.L. neut. pl. n. instead of N.L. fem. pl. n.
