The species Hugenholtzia roseola was originally described by Hahnke et al. 2016. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 175 in 2017. Hahnke et al. formed this name in 2016 by placing the species Lewin 1969 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Hahnke et al. 2016 into the genus Hahnke et al. 2017.
