The species Thiomicrospira microaerophila was originally described and validly published by Boden et al. 2017. Boden et al. formed this name in 2017 by placing the species Sorokin et al. 2007 into the genus Kuenen and Veldkamp 1972 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Boden et al. 2017.
