The species Ensifer shofinae was originally described by Chen et al. 2017. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 177 in 2017. Hördt et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. In 2022, Kuzmanović et al. established as the basonym of (Chen et al. 2017) Kuzmanović et al. 2022 .
