Nomenclatural History
The phylum Epsilonbacteraeota was originally proposed by Waite et al. 2017. Waite et al. replaced this illegitimate name with Waite et al. 2021 in 2018.

The name of this phylum is illegitimate because the proposed nomenclatural type and circumscription of the taxon includes the illegitimate class Campylobacteria Waite et al. 2017, for which the Validly Published class Epsilonproteobacteria Garrity et al. 2006 has priority. The proposed circumscription of this novel phylum is based on nomenclatural events that contravene the Code.
