The genus Metakosakonia was originally proposed by Alnajar and Gupta 2017. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 178 in 2017. Ma et al. transferred the members of this genus into Zhang et al. 2017 emend. Ma et al. 2020 in 2020.
