The subspecies Mycobacterium chelonae bovis was originally described and validly published by Kim et al. 2017.

Mycobacterium chelonae subsp. bovis Kim et al. 2017 and Mycobacterium bovis subsp. bovis (Karlson and Lessel 1970) Niemann et al. 2002 with Mycobacterium chelonae subsp. bovis being illegitimate.
