Nomenclatural History
The species Rathayibacter agropyri was originally described by O'Gara 1916. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 2018 the name was revived and validly published by Schroeder et al.. Schroeder et al. formed this name in 2018 by placing the species (O'Gara 1916) Burkholder 1948 into the genus Zgurskaya et al. 1993.

This species is not the same as the species described by O'Gara 1916 and subsequently by Bergey et al. 1923. This name should be cited as Rathaybacter argropyri (non O'Gara 1916) comb. nov, nom. rev. Schroeder et al. 2018. The revived epithet is 'agropyri', so it must be non O'Gara 1916; not ex Burkholder 1948. The basonym is Aplanobacter agropyri O'Gara 1916, not Corynebacterium agropyri Burkholder 1948.
