The species Arboricoccus pini was originally described by Proença et al. 2018. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 182 in 2018. Upon validation, this name was corrected from (sic) to . Hördt et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020.

pini is L. gen. fem. n. and not N.L. gen. masc. n. as given by the authors.
