Nomenclatural History
The subspecies Mycobacterium intracellulare yongonense was originally described and validly published by Castejon et al. 2018. In 2018, Castejon et al. reduced Kim et al. 2013 to the rank of subspecies.

Nouioui et al. 2018 attempted to reduce Mycobacterium yongonense in rank to that of a subspecies of Mycobacterium intracellulare, but was unaware that Castejon et al. 2018 had already make the same change.
