The species Lactobacillus kosoi was originally described by Chiou et al. 2018. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 183 in 2018. In 2020, Zheng et al. established as the basonym of (Chiou et al. 2018) Zheng et al. 2020 . Li et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of McFrederick et al. 2018 emend. Li et al. 2020 in 2020.
