Nomenclatural History
The species Bacteroides massiliae was originally described and validly published by Fenner et al. 2005. Upon validation, this name was corrected from Candidatus (sic) to . Hahnke et al. published an emended description of this species in 2016. In 2019, García-López et al. established as the basonym of (Fenner et al. 2005) García-López et al. 2020 .

This name is illegitimate because the specific epithet is not properly formed.
