The species Methylorubrum salsuginis was originally described and validly published by Green and Ardley 2018. Hördt et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. Green and Ardley formed this name in 2018 by placing the species Wang et al. 2007 into the genus Green and Ardley 2018.
