The subspecies Adlercreutzia equolifaciens equolifaciens was originally described by Nouioui et al. 2018. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 184 in 2018. Stoll et al. published an emended description of this subspecies in 2021. In 2018, Nouioui et al. reduced
Adlercreutzia equolifaciens Maruo et al. 2008
to the rank of subspecies.
