Nomenclatural History
The species Mobiluncus holmesii was originally described by Nouioui et al. 2018. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 184 in 2018. Nouioui et al. elevated the subspecies Spiegel and Roberts 1984 to the rank of species to form this name in 2018. Nouioui et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Hammann et al. 1984 emend. Nouioui et al. 2018 in 2018.

Nouioui et al. 2018 established that Falcivibrio vaginalis is not a later heterotypic synonym of Mobiluncus curtisii, but rather a later heterotypic synonym of Mobiluncus curtisii subsp. holmesii, which they also elevated in rank to species, causing Falcivibrio vaginalis to become an earlier heterotypic synonym of Mobiluncus holmesii.
