The species Mycoplasma molaris was originally described by Rosendal 1974. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Gupta et al. corrected this name from Mycoplasma molare (sic) to Mycoplasma molaris . In 2018, Gupta et al. established Mycoplasma molaris as the basonym of
Mesomycoplasma molaris (Rosendal 1974) Gupta et al. 2018
