The species Ruminiclostridium cellobioparum was originally described and validly published by Zhang et al. 2018. In 2018, Zhang et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form
Ruminiclostridium cellobioparum cellobioparum (Hungate 1944) Zhang et al. 2018
. Zhang et al. formed this name in 2018 by placing the species
Clostridium cellobioparum Hungate 1944 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Ruminiclostridium Zhang et al. 2018 non Ruminiclostridium Yutin and Galperin 2013.
