The species Ruminiclostridium hungatei was originally described and validly published by Zhang et al. 2018. Zhang et al. formed this name in 2018 by placing the species
Clostridium hungatei Monserrate et al. 2001
into the genus Ruminiclostridium Zhang et al. 2018 non Ruminiclostridium Yutin and Galperin 2013.
